Debbie's Calling: "
Twenty-six years ago I experienced
a hospital birth with my first son. It was filled with unnecessary interventions and most importantly... it lacked the tenderness and intimacy that I believed is the core of childbirth. When I became pregnant again, birthing in a hospital did not sit well with my spirit. I sought the alternative, which was hard to find in 1995. My second and third sons were born at home surrounded by family and friends with Midwives. The indescribably beautiful and powerful experience of those home births inspired my pursuit of natural birth, education and choice for women... and eventually Midwifery! For the next 17 years I supported women as a Doula. In 2008 I decided to study Midwifery - which I did in California, Utah, and Florida. I am a member of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives. and California Association of Midwives,
The Tribe Practice: We are committed to honoring each family's choice to birth in a safe and supportive environment. We feel it is an honor and privilege to witness a baby take their first breath, couples become families, and children become siblings. We offer midwifery services in our office or your home. We are committed to supporting you throughout your birth experience and beyond. Forever part of our Tribe.
Improving Racial Disparities:
According to the CA Health Department...
- Approximately one in seven African American babies are born too early or too small.
- African American babies are more than twice as likely as White babies to die before their first birthdays.
- African American women are much more likely than White women to die of pregnancy-related complications.
Something is seriously wrong with these statistics and it is our mission to offer respectful prenatal care and contribute to reducing these disparities. We are committed to educate every pregnant woman, not just those who have access to premium care, about birth statistics and choices that will afford them their best possible birth outcome.
